In May 2021, Daniel Libeskind celebrated his 75th birthday. The world-famous architect, author of many great projects, including the building of the Jewish Museum in Berlin and the master plan to develop the area of the demolished World Trade Center towers in New York, was born in Łódź in 1946. As a part of the celebration of the Libeskind Year, the FŁ4K invites you to two outstanding concerts. 

The artist’s grandparents came to Łódź from Przedbórz at the beginning of the 20th century. His father, Nachman, was already born in Łódź (in 2020, the Marek Edelman Dialogue Center published Życie pełne barw (The Life Full of Colors), a book about his life written by Annette Libeskind Berkovits). The Libeskind family spent 11 years after the war in Łódź, and later they emigrated through Israel to the United States. On the occasion of the architect’s birthday, the City Council awarded to him a title of the Honorary Citizen of Łódź and proclaimed 2021 The Year of Daniel Libeskind. On 14 August, the Marek Edelman Dialogue Centre invites everyone to two excellent concerts in special locations, as a prologue of the Łódź of Four Cultures Festival which begins on 10 September. 

At 17, in the backyard at Więckowskiego 4, where the Libeskind family lived with little Daniel, Ola Bilińska will sing lullabies in Polish and Yiddish. Maybe these will be the same songs as Dora Libeskind hummed to her son.
At 18:30, Leszek Kołodziejski, an excellent accordionist, soloist, music arranger, as well as chamber and session musician, will play his concert.

OLA BILIŃSKA

Ola Bilińska is a singer, multi-instrumentalist, author of lyrics and music and a translator of Polish poetry into the English language. 
In 2010 she started her own mystical-folk band Babadag and cooperated with many bands, from urban-folk Płyny, neo-big-beat Muzyka Końca Lata, to Zbigniew Wodecki and Mitch&Mitch Orchestra and Choir. She created the Bye Bye Butterfly duo with Daniel Pigoński. Their album Do Come By received many favourable reviews from critics and fans alike. Ola Bilińska is a recognized vocalist in Poland and around the world. She brings back to life traditional Jewish songs in Yiddish. In 2015, she was awarded with the Folk Phonogram of the Year by Polskie Radio Program II for her album BERJOZKELE – kołysanki i pieśni wieczorne jidysz with her own interpretation of pre-war lullabies. Two years later, she was nominated to the same prize for Libelid – pieśni miłosne jidysz, a Jewish-themed album with love songs. In the same year, during the Jewish Culture Festival in Krakow, her The Name’s Bajgelman, devoted to the artistic work of the Bajgelman brothers from Łódź, premiered.  In 2019 she released her two albums: alt-pop Kucz/Bilińska recorded with Konrad Kucz, a well-known electro music artist, and the new Babadag record, Šulinys, inspired by sutartinės, traditional Lithuanian multipart songs, where the artist is accompanied by sisters Dominyka, Raminta i Lauksmina Kriščiūnaitė from Vilnius. The band plays concerts at festivals in Poland and Europe.  Ola Bilińska has been working with such musicians as Maciej Cieślak, Raphael Rogiński, Macio Moretti, Andrzej Smolik, Pablopavo, Konrad Kucz, Hubert Zemler and Paweł Szamburski.She composes music for theatre plays and films, plays concerts and holds workshops for children, teenagers and adults. Born in Warsaw, she currently lives in Krasnogruda in the Suwałki Region. 

LESZEK KOŁODZIEJSKI

Leszek Kołodziejski is an accordionist, soloist and chamber musician, arranger, composer and session musician. In 2018, he released his Leszek Kołodziejski | Works (Ars Sonora) album with accordion music in a chamber setting. Together with Iza Połońska and Polish Cello Quartet, he also recorded “Pejzaż bez Ciebie” (DUX, 2019) with interpretations of Jeremi Przybora and Jerzy Wasowski’s songs.  As a musician, arranger and composer, he cooperates on a permanent basis with Jaracza Theatre, Studyjny Theatre, Arlekin Puppet Theatre, Mały Theatre in Manufaktura and Nowy Theatre. He is the author of music and music arrangements for plays directed by Mariusz Grzegorzek: Dzieci widzą duchy, Nie jedz tego! To jest na święta, Pomysłowe mebelki z gąbki, Dybuk, as well as Skąpiec directed by Mariusz Pilawski, and Swidrygajłow directed by Janusz Gajos. He has been working with Iza Połońska, a vocalist, for several years now. Together, they create symphonic interpretations for their projects such as Osiecka symfonicznie, Młynarski symfonicznie, Krajewski symfonicznie (in the last project he was the conductor) which were performed with symphony orchestras in Częstochowa, Gorzów Wielkopolski, Kalisz, Kielce, Koszalin, Płock, Lublin, and Łódź. He was awarded with many Polish and international prizes at music contests in solo and chamber music categories. He also recorded his albums with the music of composers like Zbigniew Bargielski, Bogdan Dowlasz, Andrzej Krzanowski, Paweł Łukowiec, Mikołaj Majkusiak, Krzysztof Olczak, Bronisław Kazimierz Przybylski and Artur Zagajewski.
